Howdy, I bought a used 629 and am giving it a good cleaning. I don't shoot a lot of jacketed bullets, so I basically only have ballistol on hand to clean my guns. I put my bore light in the bore of this gun after cleaning it and its caked with copper. Patches were comin out clean so ballistol is pretty weak on that stuff. What should I buy? I heard that 762 sweets was good. Also use a nylon brush? I figured an agressive copper cleaner would eat at a bronze brush. Thanks for any help

Sweet's is good.
A nylon brush is good.

Sweets will eat a bronze brush, and you will be getting blue patches until the brush is gone.

Thanks rc, you are a wealth of knowledge. Unfortunatly the only close gun place only had hoppes and oil. I had some hoppes which I'm tryin. Takin it out very very slow. Next time I make the drive to the city or make a midway order ill get some sweets. This hoppes I had says hoppes elite, says it'll remove copper, but so does ballistol. I have been letting it soak for ten mins, scrub then run a jag with tight patch, I then see less copper but still some so I'm gonna be doin this all day

Got sick of it with the Hoppes, made the drive and got some Sweets 762 wow! 10 mins and completely clean! There is no one solevent does all in my mind now. I think they all have their place. The sweets done a sweet job! A few strokes of a loose patch came out straight blue all copper was gone. I let it sit a few mins and done a few tight patches and it was completely clean. Ended with one patch of ballistol and a few dry patches and was done. Very happy RC

Wow, you learn something new every day! I was just thinking about this issue today when soaking a couple of my high powered rifle barrels in Hoppes. I do a quick clean with a bronze brush and Hoppes, and then run patches through until they come out clean. Then I saturate the bore with mroe Hoppes and let it sit for a few hours, bore brush it again, patches again, and re-do the process all over again until it's clean. This process has driven me crazy for decades. I've never tried anything else simply because, I've never heard anyone confirm that Sweets will actually get it out, and without having to spend two days trying to penetrate the coating of copper fouling.

Thanks RC,
GS

Copper removal

Trere is a newer and better copper remover on the market, it contains no ammonia, you also need to use nylon brushes with it, You can coat the bore after cleaning, and leave it in the bore for protection, patch it out before shooting. Al

I use Coyote's Copper Killer and it works very quickly, just remember to hold your breath when near it.
Very high Ammonia content, it will melt the hair in your nose.

cuba

don't leave us hanging whats the name of the new product?

I am going to guess KG-12.

I talked some guy in Canada into replicating that test. And I did not have to send him any money.

At 1:58 this guy with a bore scope says that KG-12 is the best:

That guy at Gunwerks in the video has the technology to develop a range finder and yet has the pragmatic reasoning to know that the pressure that matters is what happens to the brass.
