I am in love with my S&W MP10. It is fully ambidexterous (slide hold open and release, safety, mag release). Their M&P 15 on the other hand is not.

Any rifle or lower makers have this kind of ergonomics?

Every AR-15 is pretty easy to make fully ambidextrous by adding an ambidextrous selector, BAD lever, and charging handle (only necessary if you use the side of your hand rather than your fingers to activate the handle).

The right-side mag release is a non-issue if you are left handed. Just use your off-hand thumb and pull out the mag.

Troy makes a quality ambi mag release part.

A side-charger upper (e.g. from Fulton Armory or Mega with a FA or Young's drilled/tapped bolt carrier) has been found to be a huge improvement in ergos for this lefty. However, you lose the benefit of the ejection port cover. And bolt carriers are pretty much unobtanium right now.

I have yet to figure out how the BAD lever will be of help, though, except for locking the bolt back more easily (this is generally not a challenge).

I personally don't even find them helpful for right-handers. I just listed it because it is a way to charge the rifle from the "opposite" side of the gun if you were so inclined.

Don't get me wrong, I have a BAD lever...in my parts bin! :D

With a side-charger, the releasing the bolt is a gross motor movement--palm against the front of the handle, pull backwards, and release. Engaging the catch for a clearing drill can be done with the trigger finger.

For me, the huge increase in ergos and simplicity with the side-charger easily offset the negatives (exposed ejection port, co$t).

No, it isn't. The bho is left side only.

That is the only control that isn't ambi. But...

I never use the bolt hold open to release the bolt carrier after changing mags. The charging handle is a much larger target and only requires a light bump release the bolt.

If you need to lock the bolt open manually it's easy to do if you're right handed and run the CH on the left side. Pull the CH to the rear with left palm and you're thumb can manually actuate the BHO.

If you're a lefty the manual BHO is right above the left side mag release and is trivially easy to reach with your left trigger finger. You'd probably be running the CH on the right side of you're left handed and the CH serves as a very large and easy to actuate bolt release.

At any rate manually setting the BHO is usually a administrative task.

I like the Norgon ambidextrous magazine release. It's flatter and less likely to be bumped. I also like ambidextrous safeties too. Nice to be able to use my left thumb. Charging handle doesn't matter to me.
