Fun (kinda sorta) with a Trooper MK3

My dad is getting older, called me a bit frustrated.
Has a minty Colt Trooper Mk3 6" blued........in .22 magnum.
He bought it at a gunshow 20 yrs or so ago.
He can't remember if he shot it or not, but IIRC he said a few yrs back he never did.

Anyway, he has somebody wanting it.
So he got it out of storage.
Won't fire.

He took the grips off and a tiny sliver of metal fell out.

So that had him all wound up LOL!

I went over, popped the sideplate and found nothing chipped or out of place. But..............there's no way the transfer bar will go over the firing pin. It's too short!

Only thing it can be is...........pops got a used gun somebody swapped a part in...........and hadn't shot the gun to discover it..........until recent attempt LOL.

My guess is that tiny sliver was either a burr from someplace, or remnant from the correct part that broke many moons ago.

Too funny, the gun has been inoperable for decades. Guess we better fix it

Pawl and transfer bar, each rides on a pin on the trigger. Can't put it together with them swapped.
Dunno if there were revisions in engineering, where the part is just the wrong one (within model) or it is from the wrong model.
It'd be cool to know where that part came from, and what.

Just did websearch for pics, saw one of .357 cocked.

Slow to come on, but the lightbulb did LOL

The problem is............pop's gun has a centerfire transfer bar in it.
Rimfire firing pin is higher in frame.
So was Trooper transfer bar, just wrong one.

So someone tried to "fix" it and it still wouldn't work so they gave up and sold it. I've seen that one before and usually it's an easy fix. Glad you got it figured out.
