Its strange the things that happen sometimes :). I'm currently looking at thinning out my rifle collection. While there are a few that I really want to hang onto, I have come to the realization that I take my handguns out shooting about 20 times more often, and I am saving up for a down payment on a new house so I figured any extra $$$ I could get out of stuff I could part with would be money put to good use.

With that in mind - I was going through the collection and came across my SMLE No4 Mk1. It's a bit of a beater, but I always liked the look of it. Only thing was I tried a few times to get it to chamber a round it it never would go in. I stuck it aside and hadn't touched it in 5-6 years. I had it out today, figured "Hey - I've never even shot this - I probably can get rid of it". Not wanting to sell a non-functioning gun though, I looked into the cause of the problem. Turns out that the bolt head was turned out a full rotation when I bought it, which was causing it to bind up if there was a round present. Turned it in, picked up a test round, and viola - closed smooth as butter.

Thing is, now that its working I don't want to sell it anymore. I doubt that rifle would have ever been touched again if I hadn't thought of selling it though. Oh well. I can definitely let go of the sporterized No3 Mk1 :D

Funny how that happens. I have bought a few not working and planning to flip after repairs. Only when they work I no longer want to part with them. I am glad my wife loves me.

mgmorden: That happens to a huge number of Enfield owners, and it's fortunate that you experimented with it.

Those of you who reload .303 already know this about reloads. It is written for those who don't yet reload.

When the brass is neck-sized only, to allow it to be used more times, the reloaded .303 round often fits only into the chamber of the rifle which first fired it.

With my three #4s and two #5s, a reloaded round might fit into two different chambers, but sometimes only into just that same rifle.
