howdy , I am seeking info of Fuzzy Farrant pistol grips , all I know is he was a LAPD Officer who made combat pistol gripsin what time frame I donnot know . your input would be greatly appreciated. many thanks, robbt

He lived in West Covina, California and worked out of his house. Most active in the 1960's/1970's and he was pretty old even then. Had a great stash of exotic wood in his garage.

His grips generally had finger grooves and palm swells and were made to fit the buyers' hand. Many of his grips actually required cutting a wedge out of the frame at the front bottom. He did this so the grip circumference could be kept small at the base so the pinky could get a good grip on the gun.

One of the best grip-makers years ago.
He is dead now, but I don't remember when he died. Probably at least 20 years ago or more.

He and Guy Hogue were LA cops at the same time I think. They both started out making grips for other cops, and went on from there.

Here's a pair of Farrant grips for a Colt - fits Pythons, first generation Troopers, Official Police models, etc. As you can see, they do require removing metal at the lower front corner of the grip frame. I bought the grips very cheaply, but didn't have a Colt I was willing to grind the metal on, so I bought a holster worn OP in good mechanical shape for under $200.00 just to fit the these grips to. I had wanted a pair since the early 70's after reading Jeff Cooper's book on Handguns. The OP came with some old Herrett's grips that a practical user had taken a grinder to so they'd work better with speedloaders, and then had beat the heck out of in open carry. They feel so good I haven't gotten around to grinding the frame! Someday I will though, so no, I don't want to sell them. Anyway, here's the grips:

I Believe...

...the Henry Perez, of Cheshire & Perez (who used to have the S&W warranty contract for southern California), was having grips of the Farrant design made in the Philippines around the mid to late 80's. Cheshire & Perez also appears no longer to be with us but the information might help you recognize an offering of a very similar set of wooden grip stocks.
