The Georgia Firearm Owners Defense League needs your support! We are gearing up for the state legislative session this year so we can introduce our bill that would repeal the "public gathering" law for citizens licensed to carry firearms in the state of GA. If you are a GA resident with a Georgia Firearms License to carry, then you already know that you cannot carry to a "public gathering" (as printed on the back of the license),and since the current law is so vaguely written, vitually any place in public could be considered a public gathering. In addition to not being allowed to carry to a public gathering with a firearms license, your license is also not valid if you want to carry on a bus or rail vehicle, state parks, wildlife management area - except when hunting, non sterile areas of a airport and anywhere on airport property or other property providing public transportation, and even Stone Mountain (not even a state entity) even has their own law aganist possession of firearms within the municipal boundries of the park - with or without a license and even their "ordinance" is in violation of state law! Bet you didn't know those places where off limits by looking at the back of your license. :banghead:

As the laws stand now, a license to carry in Georgia is basically useless. Our bill we plan to introduce will restore the right to carry and invalidate useless restrictions that make criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens. We need as many voices as possible to get this bill pushed through. Anyone able and willing please join us in restoring our right to carry that the legislature has trampled on the past 130 years. Good luck to you Georgia folks. We had to fight the same fights for years in Virginia to get where we are today, and there's still more to do. Pick your fights and your legislators well, and let the latter know in no uncertain terms that you expect results, not rhetoric!

Well, since you bring it up.

I have been checking your site for many months to get information / application to join. It has shown / still shows 'Under Construction'. I e-mailed Clint Johnson last year requesting an application.

I've never received a response. Not even an acknowlegement of having received the e-mail.

I'm not interested in joining a forum just to build a 'forum count'. I was interested in working to change the GA laws. I guess I'll just have to continue on my own.

Well, since you bring it up.

The application/ join link has been diabled for a reason. We don't have bank account setup to accept any membership dues at this moment. We just have become registered with the secretary of state as a non profit organization. If we had accepted your money prior to that, we would have been in violation of the law.

Why don't you come to the monthly meetings? They are open to anyone who wants to attend. You sound like you got some ideas of your own to voice.
