G22 & G23 Tried and True?

I've got the 23 and several hicaps. I think they are good guns despite the hubbub about potential blowups. I shoot only factory ammo and discard the cases. Two thumbs up, for me! :)

Big G , thats absolutely correct about the blow ups...Its garbage! When it does happen its usually due to hot ammo or bad ammo. A lot of anti-Glock advocates take pop shots when they can. Thanks for your reply!;)

The Glock 27 is the only .40 glock I have right now, but several friends shoot either the 22 or 23 in both IDPA and GSSF (yes they reload) and they are good guns.

The FBI's Field Suitability Evaluation found nothing to keep them from being the issue weapon for all new agents... including no blow-ups even when a pistol was test-fired with a bullet lodged in the bore.

Good luck.

I have a second generation 23 that I bought many years ago and so far it has been great. I've had no malfunctions and think that for its size and weight and 13 round capacity makes for a great defensive weapon. It is the gun I choose to take with me when I go hiking due to the factors mentioned previously. I have to say though, that it isn't my favorite .40 to shoot, that honor goes to my Sig 229.

Reloads and Blow Ups: I would be willing to bet that 99.9% of said blow ups are made with reloads loaded on a Brand X progressive press by feverish guys who have little mechanical inclination and the attention span of a ADD teenager. Of course, I could be wrong... :banghead:

I've owned three G23's and two G23C's. Never had a problem with them. Kinda homely, a little chunky, and the triggers were nothing to write home to mom about, but they always went bang and sent the bullet pretty much where I wanted it.

The risk of a KB in a defensive confrontation is very real.

That said the risk of being struck by lightning in a defensive confrontation is also very real. Due to the Glocks lower metal content it does reduce your lightning strike risk so I'd say it's a push...

;)

There are a ton of G22s and G23s being carried every day. Who knows how many rounds total through all the G22s and G23s.

I like the G22 and G23. I also like the G27. I don't shoot them very often. Lately I've considerd getting KKM barrels for my Glock .40s. It may not be necessary but I don't think it would hurt. I would want to test their reliability with KKM barrels before trusting my life with a modified Glock.

I believe Glock has quietly tightened chamber dimensions of their 40cals. At least the G23s. My two G23 and G23C with Fxxxxx serial numbers are more accurate than any of the second gen models that I owned and that was quite a few. On the downside I have had a FTF with the G23 which may also indicate a tighter chamber as it was with factory ammo. That is unusual for a Glock. Anyone else heard rumors or have opinions on this issue?

My G23 and G27 have been flawless through nearly 2000 rounds between the two.

The Glock .40's are indeed, tried and true. Very few Law Enforement agencies that use them seem to be dissatisfied.

I like my G23. :)
