Does anybody know what the approximate gelatin penetration would be for the following old standbys-

.44 Special 246 gr. LRN @ 755 fps

.45 Colt 255 gr. LRN @ 860 fps

.455 Webley 265 gr. LRN @ 655 fps?

I guess they would probably finish with the .455 being the shallowest, followed by the .44, with the .45 going the deepest, but as to the real values, I am unsure.

How would they compare to the classical 230 gr. FMJ loading out of a .45 ACP for depth?

Thanks,

Hunter

Brassfetcher's extremely informative website lists a .45 acp 250grain lead hard cast round nose flat point at 827fps penetrating 16" of gelatin plus 10" of polyester-filled bullet arresting box and it kept going even after that. Any of the very heavy slow calibers usually have extreme penetration. Even the Webley at 655fps has a good chance of penetrating much more than 12".
