I was reading a post from a Guy named Night Eyes asking for serial numbers from our knives. I wanted to share these pictures.

Beautiful! I've wanted one since they came out, that model, without the saw back. Though I have Esee as my user knives, my first love was American made Gerbers. I have a Utility Coffin handle bowie, newer MKII, a yarii II tanto, newer lmf, and a folding applegate-fairbairn, Concertina wire cutter, and their nato folding shovel.

I'm a big fan of Gerber knives, especially the older models. Like you I preferred the BMF without the saw back blade. I actually started my Gerber knife collecting with a MK.I that I purchased right as I got out of high school .

Of course I had to get a matching MK.II to go along with it! To which I added a Guardian (designed by Bob Loveless), to complete my trio of Gerber Fighting Knives.

I also like my Gerber folding knives as they were well designed, innovative, and all at an affordable price at the time.

Nice collection! Though I have a newer manufactured MKII, I often highly regret selling an earlier manufactured one back in the mid-80's to get and new gun. I don't remember which gun it was, but I sure remember having been an idiot for letting that knife go!

Anyone know why those BMFs were serial numbered?
I think many fixed blade Gerber knives were serial numbered. My MK.I, along with an earlier MK.II that I owned (it had the light gray handle with a tan sheath); both knives were serial numbered. I couldn't find anything that said the serial numbers were used so they could be sold in the PX. I'm guessing that it was done more for the purpose of tracking production and inventory control.
