I'm more or less content with my 870 the way I've got it now but I would be much happier if it had ghost rings.

Are there any good ghost ring kits for the 870? I'd like a kit that has protective ears front and rear. Should I have a 'smith fit something custom (I don't know any smiths and I'm in California so that's sort of a gamble)? I don't want to lose my 18" barrel, and Remington's website doesn't show any barrels shorter than 20" in it's Extra Barrels section. I'm thinking I should do it myself and have the shotgun refinished when I'm done. Or can you sweat/solder/braze sights on without removing the finish and refinishing afterwards?

Sage Int'l makes such a front sight-

And any one of several companies makes a rear sight with ears- I like MMC's offering best myself, YMMV.

Remington offers several 18" barrels in its 870 parts list, no sweat on that account. Check the list you can get to from http://www.remington.com/support/parts/partsmain.htm and look at the list of barrels.

I like that MMC rear sight but it doesn't specify model compatability (though the site does say to specify when ordering). Will it match the curve of the 870 reciever?

Do ghost ring sets all have the same alignment? You infer that one can mix and match between kits.

I definately do not want a clamp-on front sight, it looks tacky to me. What are my other options, preferably to work with the MMC rear sight?

Forgot about this thread.

What about the front sight? And the other stuff I asked in that last post.
