Glenfield/Marlin 70

I acquired a Glenfield/Marlin model 70 22 cal rifle and with it came a couple problems. 1. It is very inconsistant in firing..seven rd magazine put it in the gun, pull the bolt back and most of the time will fire the first round but if it doesn't then eject the first round manually and 90% of the time the second round will fire. After you get 1 round fired the remainder of the rounds fired is questionable, maybe 2 fire maybe 4 and on ocassion its every other 1. The other problem is that the spent shells do not always eject properly and jam the bolt.
I'm not a gunsmith and would appreciate any help or advise anyone may have regarding this gun......As for throwing it away that thought has already crossed my mind.

Most likely needs a good cleaning in the bolt and action. It is an easy gun to clean. Check over at Rimfirecentral.com in the Marlin section.
Pull the stock and you will see it has a couple of screws holding the action to the receiver one bolt at each end of the action rails. Clean the bolt and spray the action with cleaner, reoil. Clean out the receiver get the chamber very clean and leave it dry and check it with a mirror and light. Keep the front of the bolt dry. Check the extractor by flipping with your finger to see if they are free to move. Use a pick to get the nooks and crannys. Get the extractor grove in the barrel clean.
The plastic buffer at the rear of the action most likely will need to be replaced. Check Numrich and Brownells they are cheap and useful, same as mod 60.

I would try some 40 grain solid CCI Mini Mags as they are the gold standard for semi auto 22 for reliable function. This will eliminate ammunition problem if that is the case.

You may want to do a good cleaning of the action, bolt, chamber and barrel. Get a Otis pull thru to clean the barrel and chamber with bore solvent. Lighter fluid (outside of course) with a small nylon brush works good as a cleaner for the bolt When you strip down the action make sure the buffer is not cracked or broken.

my mod 60 has to have hi speed to operate.could send to factory I think they adjust the gun to shoot regular.but may not do it except to new guns.

Thank you all that replied to my problem, you solved the problem. I stripped the gun down totally cleaned it so the action was smooth, no broken parts and it shoots great now. Also went to different ammo..CCl Mini Mag..What a difference
