I just ordered a rear adjustable rear site for my glock 19 so my question is does anyone know a easy way to remove and install the new rear site without a site push tool. I was hoping someone had a home invention.
C-clamp slide to bench...
Use small sliver of wood/cloth to protect finish...
Your factory sight has a slight indent on the rear sight....
Drive out with punch, ideally nylon, hardwood, or brass tipped...
I uses a small block of hardwood and a hammer, it moved very easily. I moved it from left to right (toward the ejection port). Great YouTube videos all over the place. This is a three minute process if you are clumsy.
there are some inexpensive push tools on ebay. something like this. In looking at them you can get an idea of how to make one yourself. I tried and these worked much better.
Please show before and after pics of your GLOCK and your hands. I might try that one myself as well. Probably going with the TFO's. I found some very hard nylon stock at a local hardware store. I do have brass and steel punches if the nylon gives too much. Good Luck.
A local smith will do it for $30.00. No charge if I buy the sights from their shop. No fun in that though.
I use a piece of brass ground to fit the dovetail. I'm sure it took longer to scrounge up a short piece of brass
from the scrap bucket than it did to grind the end. It works good and doesn't leave any marks.
In the past I've used a padded vise, hammer, and brass punch to switch them out, but it's not ideal. Metal sights will peen. The stock polymer Glock rear sight is unlikely to be usable after using a punch to drive it out.
I've now got one of those $40-50 sight pushers off of Ebay. It works MUCH better and a great tool to have in the toolbox. I think I've used to to change sights on 4 or 5 guns now - it's more than paid for itself.
I wouldn't be banging it around with a punch if you are dealing with night sights. A sight pusher is the only safe way for those....but a regular sight will respond well to a padded vise and brass or nylon punch.
The factory sight can most likely be removed by hand, push real hard with your thumb, it will come off. Depending on the new sight you bought, install might be a little tougher. Tapping it in with a plastic screwdriver handle works well. Lay the gun on a wood bench, tap the screwdriver handle with a hammer.
