Ok. I'm looking to buy a glock. I've never owned one. I don't find the aesthetically pleasing. However I do believe in reliability. So here is the dilemma. I want the concelability of the 27 but want the handling if the 23. Do you have as much control over the 27 as the 23 with the grip extensions? I want it to be fun to shoot and I think the 23 would be more pleasurable. I wouldn't use the extended mag in the gun for carry, but would use it as a back up mag and range mags. Also to open up another can of worms, should I decide to go with the 23, should I go 23c or 23 4th gen?

Thanks for any input,
Ben

The 27 is a real handful with the short frame design. I owned one for a couple of years, and the combination of double-stack and short grip made it uncomfortable to shoot for very long at the range. I used several types of magazine extensions, but none proved very successful. I ended up trading it for a Kimber Ultra Shadow, which I still own and shoot regularly.

If the width of the gun is no problem, the 23 is a great weapon. Better for carry and concealment than the 22.

I've yet to understand why Glock doesn't build a single stack .40 or 9mm. Doesn't seem much of a stretch to go from .45ACP Model 36, downward. The Model 36 fits my hand much better, but I see no reason to stop carrying my Commander-size 1911's.

23

Hi Ben. I have both. Get the 23 first, It's still concealable, feels perfect in the hand. Both are Gen 3 guns with standard mags. I like recoil, so no experience with compensated barrels. Also, I like the Gen 3 guns better than Gen 4. For the extra cost, having average sized hands, the 4 for me is pointless.

I agree with Bullet - get the 23. You can still conceal it well and range time with the 27 is not that much fun with the short grip and all the blast.

I say get the Gen 4 - the early problems with brass to face ejection were all with the 9mm's. AFAIK the 40s were good to go. I love the new RTF grip on the Gen 4, and I believe that the double captive recoil spring on the 40 cal is probably an upgrade.
