Took my factory Gen 4 26 out over the weekend with standard range ammo, Independence brand FMJ. About halfway through a factory 10 round mag, I had a round eject straight up and a little back - it fell between my arms and landed at my feet. I cleared the chamber and this is what the next round that fed in looked like. The chamber, feed ramp, ejector do not appear marred or damaged in any way. Any thoughts? The rest of the mag worked fine.

Looks like you got your tips caught in a wringer  Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Did you check the magazine innards for debris?

I didn't at the time - and it has since been empty in a bag for the few days since then so even though it's clear now, no telling what may have been in there at the time.

I'd pop the base off it and see if there is any debris inside. Over the years, I've found primers and case pieces, as well as unknown junk.

Can you be sure that round was not deformed like that when you loaded it into the mag?

I only say that because I don't see how that kind of damage could be caused by the normal cycle of operation of the pistol.

Occasionally weird things are found in boxes of ammo from rounds with no powder to rounds with backwards bullets, etc...

My thoughts exactly. Unless that's a very thin plating, the likelihood of any pistol's springs having the power to do that is extremely remote. More than likely the bullet would have been driven into the case long before the jacket was ripped like that.
