Proposed further bans on sale of heretofore legal ivory are rushing forward. The rediculous thing is the "guilty until proven innocent" aspect of this proposed change to laws criminalizing sales of current supplies of legal elephant ivory (banned from import for decades) even when on knife handles. The burden of proof is upon the owner and not upon the FedGov and the only proof acceptable to them is the expensive analysis that a typical knife collector can not aford.

The sad thing is this will do nothing to protect African elephants from poachers since the government itself admits that American trafficing in illegal ivory is trivial and massive Asian trafficing is the sole commercial driver for dangerous levels of poaching.

If you own any ivory, whether elephant, ancient, marine, or even vegetable based you should read the attached article and then check Knife Rights and their list of politicians that need to hear from you.

Used piano sales could get interesting....
And old billiard sets! Old billiard balls and pool cues are a common source of pre-ban ivory and specialist buyers are always looking for these. I bought 2 pocket knives with pre-ban ivory scales last year, one of them is in my pocket as I'm typing this. At least I have no intention of selling them.

Guess I'll have to stick to collecting rhino horn BBQ tongs and bald eagle back scratchers from now on!

Plenty of antique ivory ornaments and knives/knife sets out there and there's no reason that their sale should be restricted.

How old does ivory have to be to be called pre-ban?

I do want some ivory 1911 grips with a longhorn carved in it with ruby inset for eyes.

Piano keys that are called Ivory are typically a white wood key with a thin layer of ivory on the exposed surfaces called a scale. Jewelry supply houses have sold them.....now you are telling me I may not sell or even give my kids a folder with scales (odd that the knife and piano people call them the same thing) scrimmed and glued on.

Look up Tim Hawkins' "The Government Can" the official video on You Tube......
