I recently bought a USP Compact 9mm. I bought a Galco holster when I purchased the gun, but I hate the thumb break on it. It makes it almost impossible to present the gun rapidly. It literally requires two hands to undo the thumb break snap to present the gun. This isn't gonna cut it. Anyone have a suggestion for a good concealment rig for the USP?

The Galco I have is IWB. I can conceal it reasonably well, other than the thumb break thing. I would consider an OWB rig or a shoulder rig too. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mikel

I wouldn't mind an OTW either, the USP is a little thick for IWB with most of the pants I own.

Also, have you noticed any wear from a kydex holster? I have the stainless model. It's not that big of a deal, I'll accept a little bit of finish wear for good retention and concealment, I'm just wondering...

For quality leather holsters check out Milt Sparks and Alessi.

Hey Craig & Audrey are on the High Road!!!

For those of you that don't know, Craig & Audrey are the proprieters of Lightning Arms Sports. Their customer service and delivery are legendary over at 1911 Forum.

I would also says Sparks or Alessi. I have the Sparks SSII that I purchased from Audrey a few months back for my 1911. It is a very nice rig and delivery time was only a few days.

For the USP I would recommend the Alessi CQC/s or the Sparks NP-1/NP-2 models to start with. The Sparks 55BN would be good too for OWB. I think the USP is too blocky for IWB carry for long periods of time.

All depends on your body type I guess. I've carried my USP .45 C all day long in a Wild Bill's IWB and barely knew it was there.

I've tried a bunch of holsters and decided on a shoulder holster of some kind. I'm kinda lost on as to what I should get though, since their are so many in such a broad range of prices.

I decided on a shoulder rig because I drive a LOT, and change cars quiet often (as in, I probably drive 10 different cars a day for a few minutes, and get in and out of probably 20). IWB is pretty comfortable for me at all times EXCEPT for getting in and out of a car, not to mention hard to draw from concealment while in a car.

Any suggestions, or at least a place to start? :)

Mikel: I started with Galco and decided on their SSII system with a horizontal holster on one side and a double mag carrier on the other. I don't use the belt tie-downs that come with it. I've found this to be very comfortable - especially when driving - as long as you can wear a cover garment that covers it well without printing and not get so warm that you want to take it off... which is usually my problem. I just have to think about being hot and I'll start to sweat. Good thing I live in the upper midwest where its cool/cold 8 months of the year. ;)

I'll check into the galco. I'll mainly use it for the winter time when I have a jacket on :)

I used a Galco FLETCH for my USPc and it was great. Presentation is fast, sits high. I got rid of the USPc and still have the holster if you want it. It was used very little and it should be in my box o holsters.

PM if ya want it.

Mikel, The two I would check out are the Galco Concealable and the Alessi CQC. Both are excellent designs. The Galco Fletch is a good holster also so I would take shadow up on his generous offer.

Mikel;

I've been carrying my USPc in a Milt Sparks Exec's Companion IWB for years. I'm approx 5'10" & 165 lbs. & rate the concealability as excellent. Since, as I've said, I've been with the same holster for years, the comfort is not an issue. That's all day carry also, not just a here & there situational put it on type carry.

Different people with different bodies will have different results, but it sure works well for me.
