So I'm getting into my car at 0500 as my wife has phoned me and said I have to get to the hospital right now!. So I was woken out of a sound sleep and was groggy. Really groggy. In a fog type of groggy.
Turn the key and the first sound out of the radio was the word "firearms".
Huhhh? Whaaaaa? So I shook myself awake and discovered that I was listening to some public affairs show. On an FM rock station...which was confusing but okay.
So there was this policy wonky academic Ubertool going on about how Butte Co is the worst for having firearms prohibition orders (FPO) appended to restraining orders.
Izzat right?
Now I was really into it.
Ubertool of course thought this was horrible and I guess by extension thought that all ROs were valid and good.
In Cal, all ROs by law must have a firearms prohibition order appended to it. But in Butte we have the highest percentage of ROs that do not. This is either judges are crossing it out or the people who do the inputting of the order leaving it off.
Without a FPO on the RO the police cannot enforce it and Ubertool was mortified by this.
Ha! Good! I thought.
He then went on to say that the vast majority of all counties, with Butte again near last place, did not have a good record of enforcing FPOs. And that this was bad.
I say great! Given that ROs can be placed on people for little or no reason I'm glad Butte ranks towards the bottom.
It's a small thing but everything helps.
