What are good reasons for choosing variable rate recoil springs over standard springs? Is it generally better to keep it simple and stick with standard recoil springs?
Not being certain what type of weapon system you are considering, but I'd be a little leery. Unless the gun was suffering a malady that could be fixed only by a variable (and I cannot think of one that would), i would'nt mess with it.
I use them because they allow for a wider range of ammo reliablity. I can use a 16 1/2 lb VP recoil spring and get the functions I want with a wide range of ammo including 200 grain semi-waddcutters. I do not use anything else in 5" 1911's.
