This isn't a new issue. There are other reports of it on the internet, but I just wanted to put forth my experience in case it would be helpful to others. I have both the 3MOA and 6MOA versions of the Vortex Venom red dot optic. Love 'em both, but... The battery cover on the 3MOA unit flew off a couple of days ago. I found it, but really messed it up trying to reattach it with a metal screwdriver. It doesn't thread into the main unit easily and is difficult to tighten. The screwdriver slot is sloppy and shallow, and it is nearly impossible to keep from messing it up. This is all well documented.
I got a great response to my phone call to Vortex. Unconditional lifetime warranty. No need to register the products. They are sending me gratis two new covers AND, most importantly, a tool to use for tightening the cover to the unit. Unless I am mistaken, the tool will be plastic and grip the several notches also cut into the cover top besides the screwdriver slot. We shall see about that.
No complaints. Products aren't perfect. It is how the problems are handled that makes the difference.
