In Concord NH, yesterday. It was one of those deals that I was not looking for, nor did I did I need it, but it was just to good to pass up. I had been looking for a knife so I either missed this on the first pass or they put it out later. Anyway, it is a Hungarian made FEG SA2000M single stack AK47. This thing looked absolutely brand new. The side of the receiver where the safety is was barely scratched from the safety. The guy had put it out for a friend and it came complete with the factory box, 2 proprietary mags (these things are hard to find), and the cable lock that came with it from the Importer, KBI. One of the mags was still in the original plastic and the other didn't have a scratch on it. Aparently these things haven't been imported for several years but this one looked to be unfired or barely fired, the inside was imaculate. I paid $250 for it.:neener: I wouldn't normally have even noticed it except for the gun right next to it. It was a another FEG AK with a nice wooden thumbhole stock that took 30 round mags. The price on that gun was $550. I have seen single stacks going for $400+ used, and junky WASRs going for $400-$500 locally.

I also picked up a new Kimber Tac-Pro SS 7 rounder for $20, 3 boxes of 380 for 12.99 each, a few cheap knives and a $10 AK Mag. I bought the AK mag to have so that I could use it as reference if I decide to open this thing up. As it turns out, it fits right into my unconverted Saiga, please spare me the warnings, I know about 922r.

Yep...

C Z 223--Sounds like you lucked in to a good 'un! The deals are still out there, it just takes a lot more scratching and a lot more luck to uncover them!

Next question--When are the pix and the range report coming?? :)

I get people through my shop on a regular basis who want to tell me about their gun show finds. I wonder why I should care especially, or why they are telling me this.

A single stack AK 47 with hard to find magazines sounds like a $200 gun. Maybe 250.

I know what you are saying but this is a good deal. Crappy WASRs are going for $400-$500 around here. Good quality single stacks are going for $400 and up and yes, they are selling for that. The fact that the mags are so rare is actually an advantage should I decide to convert it. They will probaly bring about $30 each in states like California. The skeletonized stock was made by Choate for KBI. It should bring a few bucks.

I took this to the range today along with my Zastava PAP, Saiga and, Ruger Mini-30. This has the best trigger of all of them. I was only shooting at 50 yards from the standing position but it was as accurate as the others. All in all this could easily become one of my favorite rifles pretty quickly.

Your eyes are way better than mine...I was at the same show and didn't see much worthwhile. I kept thinking I should buy stuff on the net and get a table and tack on 25%-50%. I want to butt stroke all those people pushing baby carriages up and down the already crowded aisles...leave the kids at home fer christ sake! I hate gunshows.....but I keep going in hopes of finding that bargain. Picked up a SW66 snubby there in 2004 for $210 that keeps me comin back.

Aint that the truth. They should pass a law.....guns or kids, but not both. :D

Thread drift, but...

Viking 24 and Wriggley--You said

Two BIG problems there, guys: (1) Sometimes you can't go to the gun show at all if you can't take the kid(s). (2) How are we to expose the next generation to our hobby if we don't include them?? They are the future of gun ownership in the USA--I'd think you'd want to make it as fun and as interesting as possible for them. I've seen kids from babes-in-arms to teens @ gun shows--rarely if ever are there any problems.

A cousin of mine took his first-born to a gun show, in a baby carrier, with her "first set of jeans" quilt. The universal reaction was, "Aww, how cute! That's neat!" Nobody but nobody objected to the (rather bulky) baby carrier.

She, and now her younger sister and brother, are eager for the day when they can take Hunter Safety classes and go hunting themselves.

"Suffer the little children, and forbid them not to come unto me, for of such is the kingdom of Heaven."

They are big problems....why do you have to make your problem someone's problem too? Look, I know I'm old and grumpy but after the 13th time I was stuck in the middle of an aisle because of a stroller..and it's 100 degrees...and I'm trying not to knock people over who aren't watching where they're going....enough is enough. I'm all for the next generation having the torch passed to them...but unless an 18mo old can spot a Singer 1911 from 20 feet away...wait till they're old enough to actually appreciate the gun show experience.

I could spot a Singer 1911 from 50 feet away when I was 18 months old.

I could field strip and reassemble one in under 20 seconds blindfolded before I hit my second birthday.

I have the photos.

:D

When my kids were little, I used the backpack carrier. Works great, kids are out of the way, well protected, and I have both hands free at all times.

The 100% Hungarian-made AKs are AWESOME when compared to the other stuff floating around. I've owned 2 in the past (SA85s). The trigger is pure art when compared to the Century AKs. If I wanted a Valmet and couldn't find/afford one, a Hungarian AK would be my 2nd choice.
