Last week I had the opportunity to go on a quick hunt in southwest TX. I brought my Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. A little long and heavy for a hunt but I wasn't going to be lugging it around on patrol, so what the heck, right? We were riding around and checking out the place and came around a corner and saw a hog about 60 yards out. Head shot. Bang flop.

Loaded him up and kept riding around. A few minutes later we came across a 6 foot rattlesnake. Used my Glock this time and one to the belly and one to the head did the trip. The head disappeared...but he kept moving for another 15 minutes or so.

Next morning we sit in a stand. Hog comes out and I opt for the suppressed 22 for the shot. Shot to the ear and he dropped in place.

Riding around later that morning I got a head shot on a javelina. Bang flop. No picture.

And in the afternoon we found a ton of does on a sendero and I stalked up to about 195 yards and got in the prone on a natural berm. Shot a doe with a shoulder shot and dropped her in place. My cousin went back to get the truck and the deer came back out. I texted him to see if he wanted one for meat and he said yes. Bang flop. Two does down within 20 feet of each other. Got busy cleaning them and forgot to take pictures.

Recap was about 30 hours, 2 hogs, 1 rattlesnake, 1 javelina, 2 deer. Kills with Ruger Precision Rifle, Glock 19, and CZ 455. I was shooting the Norma Scirocco 2 bullet in 6.5. I was pretty impressed. One doe had both shoulders penetrated and the other was angled, went in through the shoulder and then took out about 3 inches of spine.

Off to help out with a wounded veteran hunt this weekend. Can't wait.
