Here is what happened: My wife's great uncle had to take my wifes grandmother to the emergency room yesterday morning. On his way back out to the car (Emegency room parking) a man came up and asked him if he could move his car because "his babies" bottle was under the vehicle. My Great Uncle "GU-in law" used his electric-door opener to unlock the car and as soon as he did the man jumped into the passenger side and told him he had a gun and to start driving or he'd kill him.

My GU-in law said he had what "looked like a gun" but could not tell for sure.... (he is about 80 yr-old and I'm sure he was very nervous)... the BG told him to drive around town for a while and then had him pull over. He demanded my GU's wallett and told him to get out of the car. Then the BG drove off.

So far, no news about the car (don't expect to get it back in one piece) and since the BG has the wallett and knows where my GU and Grand-mother in law live, I thought we might need to review the security around the house....

My GU does not carry, but it got me wondering.... I ALWAYS carry or have a gun in my truck.... when my wife and I left the hospital today (to see her Grandmother) I told her right off the bat that if the oppurtinuity arose, I would have shot BG at the first possible moment. I'd like to think I would not put myself in the position, but if so, I'd rather be offensive and shoot first.... then to let the BG decide when and if he would shoot me...

Just goes to show you that "it" can hit the fan at any time....

Any thoughts?

Jack

Glad your GU-in law is ok.

Sounds like he was in condition white.

Easy to second guess but I sho see some problems from here.

Babie bottle under car ? Tell him to reach in and get it.
Electric door opener sucks when others around, opens em all.

After that, he screwed and did what he could to stay alive, successfully.

I remember reading somewhere that shops can reprogram/rewire the hardware to allow the remote to unlock the driver's door individually from the rest of the doors. Its apparently very popular with women.

Glad to hear your GU-in-law is alright. It just goes to show you that the scum of the earth are everywhere. I sure hope that when I'm 80 I don't ever have to be in that situation.

Check the car's owner's manual. Some of them let you program the locks so that one press opens ONLY the passenger's side.

I know this was mentioned earlier but you might check in case the car is not set that way and it IS configurable.

FWIW
Logistar

(Hope everything turns out OK!)

I'm sorry he went through this along with the concerns of grandmother. I'm glad he is ok.

Around here hospitals have the proper signage which prohibits Conceal Carry. Which means the BGs have free range . Persons are even more likely to be in white , makes it even easier. Not all but some do have good security to walk people out.

I hope all works out .

Wait a minute, if it was a gun free zone, how did the BG get a gun in to hold up your GU? Oh, wait...that's right, criminals don't care about the signs...(sooner or later the politicians and antis will figure this out).

Glad everyone is ok.

No Mark, they won't. That's the cold reality. They figure, if they don;t want to deal with them, no one should. So they strive to rid the world of all of them. Sad but true.

Oh, and on my car the remote unlock only opens my door unless I double tap it. :)
