I'm pretty unhappy with the Waring Pro. I bought it last year and ground a deer with it. I remember putting it away thinking that I would not want to have to use it the next season. Well, its the next season and I got it out to start grinding again. It bogs down very quickly and it is to the point where I have to push down so hard on the feeder that the meat runs up the sides of the hopper. It basically worked OK for one deer and now it's not working at all. I have lost my patience with it. I called Waring and they assumed I was doing everything wrong asking me script-read questions.
Please tell me a good meat grinder to buy. I process at least two deer a year and this is turning the what should be enjoyable task into a nightmare.
My advice to you- do not buy a Waring Pro.

I went with a 1/1/2 hp Cabelas a few years ago. Though exspensive, I consider it an investment for many years to come. This thing will flat out grind some meat. It's also used as a power unit for a mixer.

The Cabelas grinders are tops, a buddy and I split on a 1.5hp and we do 6 elk and 6 deer at least per year. Last night we double ground about 200# of elk trim in the time it takes to drink a couple beers.
We have the mixer as well and for cured sausage and ground jerky it is a big time saver and almost a must to get proper dispersal of the cure.
The commercial dehydrators are also the bomb. With the pounds of jerky I have made it has paid for itself many times over.

nice! what are you pouring in that mixture though?

It's the seasonings mixed with water to help distribute it evenly throughout the meat. Simply water, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, cayene pepper powder, red flake pepper and cure. The mixer does a great job at this.

Fruits of the labor.......

Cabelas. I've ground 3 deer and 3 elk in 3 years and it works perfectly. New parts are easy to find. Clean up is a snap. The thing is so over powered for the job it's kinda silly. It's nice and heavy too. It was not cheap though, it will last a long time if not abused. Get it, you'll enjoy your butchering session much more, it will be fun and not a chore. Jeff

LEM makes good stuff as well. I'm running a Northern Industrial 1000 watt that I got on sale for 89.99 at northern tool. I ground 2 antelope and a deer with it last year and an elk and a deer with it this year, and it has been working well so far. (if you need to get by on the cheap)
