I have a 1958 Colt Model 357 on lay away. I'm getting a pretty good deal on it because the finish is worn and it's got Pachmayr rubber grips on it. I'd like to get some wood grips for it. I'm not worried about original, just good ones that fit it weil and don't break my limited budget.

IIUC - this frame is the same as the Python which was developed from it? So grips for a Python should fit?

Is there anyone out there for Colts like Ahrends is for Smith & Wesson?

Thanks!

Besure, for sure they are PRE Mark 3 grips for Troopers. These are widely mis represented on E Bay. Colt Officer's Model Match grips are correct. Official Police ones are "Service" style but work well with a grip adapter.

Any aftermarket grips sold for the Python will work. I like Badgers and have a set on my 1969 vintage Trooper. Grips made for any of the I or E frame Colts SHOULD work. Some of the earlier (pre WWII) ones might require fitting.

Parial list of models that should fit:
Python
Trooper & Trooper .357 (NOT Trooper MKIII or MKV)
Official Police
Officer's Model
Army Special

I got a great deal on a COLT .357 about 6 yrs. ago. It also had rubber grips on it. I was going to put original grips on it, @ $ 250.00 & higher is almost what I paid for the gun. I went with Eagle service stocks with the gold COLT medallion in them. They look great, for about $ 60.00. :)

Now that's what I'm talking about. Do you have a link for those grips? I'll snoop around online but it would be good to know where you got them.

Thanks!

Interesting, I just bought a set of Pachmayr grips for my 1965 [J frame] Trooper Merk III. Am taking it into the field and didn't want to damage the vintage original wooden grips. They are going into the bank box for when ever I choose to re mount them.

Got the rubber ones yesterday and they fit perfectly. Mine is a J frame so they wouldn't fit your gun. No argument the originals look great but given their value should I ever decide to sell it, I'm happy with the new Pachmayr's. From what I understand they are much more comfortable to shoot, particularly with the heavy loads I plan to shoot in it.

bassdogs-The Trooper Mark III was not introduced until 1969/1970. The Mark III is built on the J frame. but a Trooper produced in 1965 would be a Trooper .38, Trooper .357 or Trooper .22 and be built on the I/E frame and would be interchangable with the Colt 357.

Go to ebay or google Python grips. Anything that fits the Python will fit any of the I/E frame guns. Plenty of stuff from $10-$600. Take your pick.
