I'm looking for help from some of you who are experienced with Colt revolvers. I would like to find some Trooper Mk III grips that are slightly longer than the Pachmayrs shown in the photo below. I like the Pachmayr grips as shown for the Smith 686, but the ones for the Trooper Mk III are just a little bit short for my liking. Are you guys aware of anything similar that might meet my needs? I do not want finger grooves and would prefer the same type of rubber grip as the Presentation/Signature line, but might be interested in smooth wood grips if those are available. The main thing is that I want them a little longer, similar to the length of the ones on the two Smiths below. Any suggestions?

I seem to recall that Pachmayr use to make the Presentation grips for S&W revolvers in different sizes, marked Small, Medium, and Large. I usually looked for Small or Medium as my hands are on the smaller side. I don't know if they did this for Colt revolvers or not but it might be worth a try to look into it. Currently I believe Pachmayr only makes a one-size-fits-all grip in the Presentation line. I checked out some photos of older Trooper Mk.III grips online and it sort of appears like there were different grip sizes available at one time.

Billybob and bannockburn, thanks for that info. Those Herretts do look a little longer than the grips I have. I like the feel of grips with the thumb shelf type of feature like those Herretts, but I've found that on some guns such as the Browning Hi Power that shelf digs into my hand upon recoil and gets uncomfortable after firing several rounds. So, I wonder how they'd feel in use on the Trooper...

With regard to the Small, Medium, Large topic, I checked the Pachmayrs that are on it now and they do in fact say "Small Grip" on the inside. So, perhaps there are some longer ones out there somewhere (assuming Medium and Large are longer than Small, not just larger circumference). Maybe I can locate a set...

Thanks again.

I have a set of Pachmayr Presentation grips for my Model 686 and inside they are marked "Large". I believe it's more about length than circumference as I also have other Pachmayr's marked "Small" and they really are somewhat shorter in overall length. Here's a photo of the Large K/L frame grips marked "Large" compared to the original factory target stocks.

Sounds like that might work if I can find some Mediums or Larges. I wouldn't mind if the grip is larger circumference than the Smalls. I don't really need the larger circumference but it'd be okay.

The problem is, not many companies made grips for the Mark III and only Pachmayr's are currently offered in rubber.
Most available grips in wood are one size.
One option is to contact Herrett's Grips.
Herrett is an old line custom grip maker recently brought under the High Standard company,
They offer a number of designs and if you send a tracing of your hand they'll custom fit the grips to you.

Right now the new web site is not complete so you'd have to contact them for availability of grips.

I'm not sure if this is something you'd want, but Hogue is making a "Big Butt" grip for the Mark III.
