I've been working some more on my ghillie suit.

Here are a three pics of it.

It's hanging from a white coat hanger (clearly visible) in the brush line along the edge of my yard.

The pics were taken about 2:00pm in full sun. You can also sort of see the dark green of the BDU top along the collar and one sleeve on the side.

The ghillie shirt is hanging with shoulders square on to the camera.

Try looking at the pics. Then, put your finger or thumb over the white coat hanger part of the pic and look at them again.

I'm not finished yet. Still more to add to the upper arms.

I'm using the following materials.

1) BDU top.
2) Old radar net with all camo cloth stripped off.
3) Strands of jute twine that I've spray painted olive drab in spots.
4) Strands of raffia I've splattered with olive drab.
5) Shoe Goo to hold the net to the BDU top.

Seems like overkill for hunting. Totally the wrong style for voting from the rooftops as it wouldn't blend in with the shingles at all.

On the surface the ghillie suit in the hands of anyone other than a military sniper would seem to have limited practicality. So what's the point? Other than it's just a fun thing to make and have of course? ;)

OH...
Really nice work by the way. I doubt if your average human would notice it from a distance of 25 yards or more even if they were looking straight at it.

you cant hunt bigfoot in an orange vest.

What's it for?

1) Something fun to do. My first evil plan is to see if I can sneak up on my three dogs with it.

2) Second evil plan......Badlands Tactical hosts numerous "sniper" events. I've taken the first two Badlands courses, and would like to compete in a Badlands event, but most of their events have a "stalk" element.

It's a competition ghillie for Badlands Tactical.

3) Never know when a good ghillie might come in handy. I can think of all sorts of reasons why I might need to not be seen in the woods.

4) I have contrusted a blow gun, and would like to attempt to take some small game with it. Ghillie makes it more likely I get closer to small game.

5) Being able to sit on the edge of tall grass and observe without being seen is just cool. It's like Harry Potter's invisibility cloak.

Looks like its growing great, the ghillie in the third picture is way bigger than the first! What are you feeding it? Watering it more than once a day?

Just a little bit of advice, you should really clean the area up before taking a picture of your ghillie, really looks trashy with the coat hanger and all those weeds surrounding it.

hillbilly, I hope you don't take offense but if I ever meet you while you're wearing that suit (and I hope there aren't any crosshairs on me), I'm going to call you "Cuz'n It." :D You did a terrific job!

Looks cool. I have been thinking about making something similar myself, but like most things, I am long on plan and short on action.
