I’m new to THR as a member but I’ve found good ideas over the years. Felt like giving back a little today.
I thought I’d share this little project I did a few years ago. Our house in Connecticut had a unfinished basement that we wanted to finish at some point.
As you can see the stairway and supporting framing created a small area that wouldn’t be worth finishing but I thought could be turn into a small work area.
I used plans I found on Lowe’s as a template for the bench. It has four legs and had to be assembled in the small space. I anchored it against the wall in two spots with concrete nails from a nail gun. But it ended up being very sturdy and able to support a shelf I built between the workbench and the stairway studs for the cheap gun cabinet.
I made sure to not have anything come in contact with the PVC piping.
I then built a four-shelf unit that rests on the workbench, using 5/8 plywood spaced just enough to fit plastic or metal ammo cans.
I replaced the light fixture in the ceiling with one that had a outlet, and ran a cord down to the power strip on the stud.
On the wall opposite from the workbench is the framing for the stairs. You can’t see it well in the pics but I nailed pegboard there so I would have about 4’x7’ of space to hang things from.
The last step was to use cheap LED strip lights between the shelves and under the bench so it wouldn’t be too dark, and so I could find something that falls or pops off easier.
