Kennesaw's ordnance is in conflict with state law, so the state is acting accordingly.

To clarify, the state isn't doing anything.

This action just one of the ways the GeorgiaCarry.Org is getting Georgia's gun laws cleaned up at every level.

Big surprise there.

Having Atlanta as the head of our state gov't isn't exactly conducive to getting good gun laws. Seems like it's a nice little cesspool of Socialism in the middle of our otherwise pretty free state.

Given the fact that GA has one of the longest, if not THE longest, list of places off-limits to CCW, I would say we have a LOT of work to do.

Check out this map comparing GA to the other states on a few of our off-limits areas: http://www.georgiacarry.org/cms/about/prohibited-places/

GeorgiaCarry has been taking care of this problem across the state. I live in Gwinnett and just recently they lifted the ban on parks here due to a lawsuit by GeorgiaCarry. Its funny how the local government doesnt understand the state law overrides local ordinances. This reminds me that I need to send in my money for Georgia Carry.

Georgia gun laws suck but at least we have a good grassroots .org.

I think people would be amazed just how crappy our laws are. Can't even carry on a city bus or leave your gun in your car in the parking lot at Chili's. Georgia almost dares you to break the law if you carry outside of your own property.

O.C.G.A. § 16-11-127

It is against the law for a person to carry to or while at a public gathering any explosive compound, firearm, or knife designed for the purpose of offense or defense

Relevant case law.

Finally, I would note that a parking area on the grounds of and in close proximity to an area which is a public gathering is a part of the public gathering and is thus subject to the prohibitions of this Code Section. Hubbard v. State, 210 Ga. App. 141 (1993).

I really like this one. This makes it a felony to carry on Marta. Or to leave your gun in your car in Marta parking lots.

O.C.G.A. § 16-12-127

Prohibition on firearms, hazardous substances, knives, or other devices; penalty; affirmative defenses

(a) It shall be unlawful for any person, with the intention of avoiding or interfering with a security measure or of introducing into a terminal any explosive, destructive device, or hoax device as defined in Code Section 16-7-80; firearm; hazardous substance as defined by Code Section 12-8-92; or knife or other device designed or modified for the purpose of offense and defense, to:

(B) In the baggage or possessions of any person or any transportation company without the knowledge of the passenger or transportation company; or

(C) Aboard such aircraft, bus, or rail vehicle.

(b) A person violating the provisions of this Code section shall be guilty of a felony and shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to imprisonment for not less than one year nor more than 20 years, a fine not to exceed $15,000.00, or both. A prosecution under this Code section shall not be barred by the imposition of a civil penalty imposed by any governmental entity.

Like I am ever going to ride Marta. :cuss: excuse for a transit system. I wonder if I go pick up someone from a Marta station while carrying if that's illegal too.

I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have these ridiculous carry laws if it weren't for the scared Socialists moving from up North and corrupting Atlanta and the outlying suburbs slowly. You get the scared soccer moms doing it "for the children" and the corrupt police force and city gov't wanting it as a type of "crime reduction" when we all really know how it ends up.

The "public gathering" is way too open IMO, if a restauraunt is considered a public gathering then that would also include pretty much every business open to the public, shopping malls, grocery stores, movie theatres...if thats the case then any place in public where there is more than one person is a public gathering...this portion of the law needs some serious reconsideration and at best removed completely, i'm not anymore dangerous carrying at kroger than i am a car show..

I'm not sure why MA is black in the Georgia Carry maps - it's entirely lawful for me to carry in church, bars, parks at "public gatherings" and so on;anywhere except schools and courthouses really.
