Almost didn't go to a nearby gunshow today (Dalton, Ohio) after meeting folks for breakfast at nearby Marshallville's greasy spoon, the Heavenly Hash. My brother talked me into moseying over to the gunshow. He had gone Saturday, and wanted to scope it again. I tagged along, with pittance in my pocket. Had to run back to bro to borrow a couple extra C-notes, but managed to get back and say "I'll take it" while it was being held in the hand by another guy who hesitated a few seconds too long. I got home and added my ivory grips from my "Plain Jane" 1908, and an original magazine, and here it is. It might even be factory engraving, but probably not. A factory letter will tell. Made in 1920. I won't tell you what I paid, but it was way less than I paid for a 97% standard model.

Yep! I'd be pleased to open my safe and see that little guy. Don't you wonder where that gun has been? Wish they could talk. I know, mostly it would boreing stories, still, I'd like to know. Cool that you had that ivory to put on it! Just been waiting for the right one to come along, haven't you? :D

The really neat part is that it is worn, like it rode in a pocket with coins, etc. There is no need to leave it at home. It can ride in my pocket.
 
If it could only talk and tell you where it was for all these years, what a story that would be. A treasure indeed and I would not leave it a safe either!
 
Beauty! Congrats. I have an FN/browning version and I'm surprised how much fun it is to shoot. My 8-year-old girl even likes shooting it. :)
 
That's one sweet little Colt you found there. The ivory grips were the perfect addition to a great acquisition. Congratulations.
 
I'm not sure of the protocol everywhere, but is it a breach of etiquette to "buy it" while it's in another guy's hands? I guess it would be up to the dealer, but, as a dealer or a buyer, I would always give first "dibs" to the guy holding the item.
 
Gee, that really is a thing of beauty -- made even more so by the story that accompanied it. Thanks for sharing both -- good stuff, indeed. :)
