Gun "Turn-In", Chicago IL 8-15-09

Chicago and the state of Illinois as a whole has become such a joke. KING DALEY passed the no handgun law back when he was only a state's attorney and it has stuck to this day. Imagine what new laws will be passed by the city council if we get the 2016 Olympics which he is currently WHORING the city out for. Daley has already proven that it's HIS city and he will do with it as he pleases.
Not trying to slam the Chicago Police Department as several of my friends are officers and honorable ones at that, but how many of these guns that are turned in are actually going to be destroyed, not pocketed??

Gun laws seem to really only keep weapons out of the hands of the responsible / collectors / and enthusiasts !! But feel free to keep passing tighter laws, maybe someday (when hell freezes over)the criminals that the laws are targeting will abide by them

I wonder how many criminals will turn theirs in? My guess is none. They will be waiting around the corner to rob someone for that prepaid mastercard.

I know that fine print probably addresses this but the city is actually engaging in conspiracy to commit a crime, the way I see it.

For instance, I am Joe Blow driving down the Dan Ryan to this turn in and am pulled over by an Illinois State Trooper. During the traffic stop, let's say that the trooper notices a pistol case in the back seat and now has cause to complete the arrest... Now, I Joe Blow, and facing Felony charges due to ISP enforcing the ban within Chicago city limits while I am making an attempt to engage in a contract with the city of Chicago for said weapon....

I am rather bored today and often over think things when bored, but for those who have law degrees, please correct me if I am wrong!

I also find it amusing how the police believe that a man would give up his metaphorical "fishing pole" for a fish. These criminals can acquire more than $100 with one stick up crime, or murdering one rival drug dealer, why give up the implement they use to acquire their funds? Complete absurdness.

Chicago Mayor C. Daleys Comments on the upcoming Buy-back

Sun-Times reporter: (One expert says that) the guns that are turned in don’t work in the first place. What do you say to that?

Daley: Don’t say that, because.. Never say that, Fran. Because if someone takes that gun and fires at you, are you willing to take that chance? Not many people are. Besides that, no one likes to have a gun placed in front of their face. So don’t ever think that the guns turned in don’t work. Because there wouldn’t be anyone left in your employ. Really there wouldn’t be anybody left in your company. We’re going to go over there and find out whether they work. We don’t ask anyone to do that. They do work. These weapons are very significant They do work. I don’t know where you’re getting that. A shotgun is a shotgun. A .22 automatic pistol is a .22. They do work. (This statement dosent even make sense)

Tribune reporter: Mr. Mayor there’s a question about corporate sponsorship---

Daley: Yeah, we’re doing well. Yeah…we hope, and I said ---– what company do you work for?

Tribune reporter: I work for the Tribune

Daley: Tribune. I hope the Tribune has given us $100,000, Sun-Times, These are big companies. These are big money people You have corporate directors. You know. Yeah, I always like when they question where is the business community. I say, Where is the news media? You cover the tragedy. Don’t’ you think you owe the moral responsibility to give money? So it’s simple as that….Now all of a sudden the media is questioning corporate sponsorship. What does that mean? I always liked that. Now they’re questioning. And they the corporations that basically run the headlines. Make money off of that. If it wasn’t for that killing you wouldn’t have had the headline.

So I guess the mayor thinks the media is against this buy-back program because if all the guns are gone there wont be any murders for the news to report.

I guess the funny thing would be to get some cheap pellet pistols and paint them black and head up to Chicago. A whole trunkload and make double your money. What a good deal! I don't think you're going to see anyone get rid of a good Sig or 1911 for 100 bucks. This is a political game...that's all.

There will probably be rusted old junk if these jokers are just giving fifty to a hundred bucks for a gun. You don't have that many idiots in the world. Most will pawn a gun off, sell it to a dealer, or paper before taking it to one of these events to get rid of it.

Usa today update:

Well, I guess Kaiser Daley's ambitions proved to be less fruit-bearing this year.

According to an article I found in USA TODAY, which quoted the chicago sun times, this years gun "turn-in" was far less "successful" than last years.

It stated that 1,887 firearms were turned in, down from 6,800 the previous year. Fundrasing efforts had produced only $50,000, compared to last year's $130,000.

I found it amusing that some Chicago news agencies reported this years "turn-in" numbers as being only "slightly" lower.

I didn't bother with it

My eight-year-old told me I could have all his toy guns for $1, which he regards as a princely sum. I thought about the deal, but wasn't convinced that even our local constables would be believe that I was handing them "real" guns. So, we stayed home. How I longed to teach my boy (the three girls aren't interested) the joy this possibility offered!:D
