Where would I post about a new cell phone app I created that allows users to mark and share where the gun free zones are in their area? My goal is to get rid of them and the government takes too long so I'm waging economic warfare. I'm brand new to TheHighRoad and I've looked but can't find any forum about software or anything like that.

The app is called GunFreeZone and the website is www.GunFreeZoneApp.com if you want to take a look at it and then tell me where to post about it. I HATE spam and I realize even this post is kind of spammy but I don't know of any other way to find out where to post about it.

Thanks,
John

Does the app vibrate your phone, give off alarms, and turn the screen a flashing red when you enter into a gun free zone?

That seems like a pretty good idea for an app. There is a similar app to yours for speed traps called Trapster. Take a look at that to see if you like anything to incorporate into yours.

No alarms. Yet.

We didn't have time to add an alarm in the initial programming. It's actually pretty complicated and we figured we would start marking the gun free zones and then add things like alarms and controlling the navigation to send you around school zones and such.

What other functions would you like to see?

I like the idea, I always make a note to look for the gun buster signs.

I'm not sure how well the alarm function would work, most people I know including myself don't always have GPS & Wifi enabled due to battery power concerns. So our location could be a bit off giving false readings/ alarms.

Presuming this refers at least to Federal 'Gun Free School Zones', I'm curious how your app gets 1000 feet from any boundary of a K-12 school parcel.

Using the street addresses of schools is not sufficient.

For example, up the street from me, at the far end of the block, is a grade-school, middle-school pair. It occupies the whole end of the block.

The 1000 foot distance east of the street address is within the fenced school grounds. A proper delineation of the zone would require a boundary about 2300 feet east of the address.

Librarian> You raise a good issue that we'll have to deal with down the line. We're talking to Google (where all our map data comes from) and trying to get the map to calculate that 1000' mark from the edge of the property. I doubt we'll ever get it 100% accurate but if we can just get close, it'll help folks with a CCW a lot. We'll have to start with just 1000' from the front door of each school and refine the way Google presents the data so that it's incrementally better until we have it figured out correctly.

At the moment, I'm more focused on economic warfare against businesses that have the "No Firearms Allowed" signs on their front door. The schools are there by law, the business is there by choice. I think we can get the businesses to take those silly signs down faster than we can get the politicians to change the law.

Nice idea.
Unfortunately, I live in NY, so everywhere is a 'gun free zone' for me, because I am not a criminal.

people pay attention to the 1000' part of that law? You could not get around this town at all if that was followed to the letter.
