I was watching a show called "Guns of the world" last week, on History International. This particular show was the History on the auto loading pistol.

I felt it did pretty good job, going in to the history Mauser broom handle, Luger etc. Of course they talked about the 1911 and the 1903 pocket pistol. Then showed Colt's factory line and the production manager pulls a small pistol and say something along the lines "This is the direct descendant of the 1903 pocket pistol. A .380 DAO"

Is this something that Colt is going to release sometime soon? Checking their web site I see no mention of it. The show was produced in 2006, but I'm not sure the date of the interview with the Colt rep. But it has to be fairly recent. Because they also spoke about the "smart Gun" Colt is working on.

Colt used to manufacture the Pony, a DAO .380. It's been out of production for years, though.

1909 Pocket Model

Sounds like your describing the 1909 Colt pocket model. Same thing as the 1903 but in .380 caliber. This is one of the best concealed carry weapons of all time. Small, slim and shaped like a used bar of soap. They haven't made them for ions, too bad. You can still find them around for less than $250 but probably well worn.

You mean the 1908 Colt Model M?
which is the .380 version of the .32 caliber 1903 Model M.
Neither of which was double action.

buzz_knoxx was correct. That show featured a Colt Pony.

I have good reason to remember. It was the first/last NIB Colt pistol I've ever bought. The trigger was cracked, sights off center, grips loose, it would lock up with rounds in the mag. Put simply, it sucked.

To make matters worse, my brother-in-law and I ordered one each at the same time. I made it to the store first and was given my choice. I ended up picking the crappy one due to a complete failure to do a thorough inspection. Ah, well.
