I can't for the life of me find any gunsmiths in the dfw area. Does anyone know of any compotent ones around the DFW metroplex that won't take me for a ride?

You can't find ANY????:scrutiny:
There are dozens of gunsmiths in the DFW area. A Google search pulls up several and a map.
What needs fixing? Not all gunsmiths work on all guns.

True, but the same could be said about mechanics / doctors / recruiters: I think he's looking for a referral based on a board members' experience(s) :).

sorry for the hyperbole. literal larry over here is taking exception to my lack of detail ;).

i can't find ANY that will give me a upfront price about some pretty common gun work.

i would like to install a new hand guard, flash hider and gas block on my rifle, but none of them will give me a straight answer. the armory in garland seems to be promising though. i could do it myself but i don't have the tools, and buying them all seems impractical so any suggestion would be great.

Well, personally...

McClelland in East Dallas did some really good work for me on resurrecting a 1948 L.C. Smith and did an excellent job on a Turkish SxS. I was not happy with the one revolver job they did but not so unhappy as to forget the excellent shotgun work.

Elk Castle in West Fort Worth did superlative work on a couple "Bangor Punta challenged" S&Ws. I haven't had the occasion to try but Elk Castle's smith is probably the only local guy I'd trust with a Python - if he'd take it.

The "upstairs dungeon" at Ray's Sporting goods has done good work on rifles.

I don't really have much in the way of bad experiences apart from one that I won't name in the general vicinity of Euless Boulevard. OK on Mosin Nagants, others, not so much.

This is not to disparage the numerous places I've no experience with.

Note the karma: Elk Castle and McClelland's are at opposite ends of the metroplex. Seemed worth it at the time. Still does, come to think of it.

It appears we were posting at the same time.

Sorry - got nothing current on EBRs. I once had good luck with a couple Rock River tune ups at DFW Gun on Mockingbird but Fitz hasn't worked there in a spell.

I'd buy the tools - if I was into that pattern of rifle more than a little bit.
