I heard that the .458 Win. Magnum can be fired from the .458 Lott without a problem. Somebody posted something yesterday and said that there is an "erosion" problem when doing this.
Can somebody finally clear this up for me?
Is it completely safe to fire .458 Magnums from .458 Lotts without it wearing certain parts of the gun out that would not be normally worn out???

Also, what else can the Lott shoot??

Please somebody finally clear this up for me so I can go buy or not buy my Lott :)
Thanks!

458 lott

you can fire .458 Win. and .450 Watts in a .458 Lott with no problems . In fact, Jack Lott had that in mind when he designed the chamber.

I'm inclined to agree that chamber erosion would become an issue if .458 magnums are fired in any large amount.
You could get away with it in an emergency situation, i.e. your rifle arrives in Africa along with twenty cartridges and your hunt of a lifetime calls for a bit more shooting that those twenty shells will allow.

You can safely handload the .458 Lott cartridges to .458 magnum ballistics or even .45-70 ballistics and this would be the route I would choose.
