Is there a way to lighten the trigger pull of my H&K 416D (dedicated .22lr)? My `smith says the trigger mechanism isn't like the AR-15, so I can't use a drop-in unit. He tried to lighten it, but didn't have any success.

This thing is very accurate, but the trigger is way too stiff. I don't mind creep or even over-travel, but the pull weight is messing with my consistency on the bench. Any help would be most appreciated.

He is right, it is a trigger "block". The trigger is enclosed in a housing that has a few springs, safety detention and other goodies. I bought my wife one, hers has the same heavy trigger. I had read about someone lightening the trigger and they put a video on YouTube, but I decided the trigger pack cost too much to replace. It still has a sear engagement, which means it is possible, but not something I would recommend trying. I have had my trigger apart a few times to oil it (and use a trigger grease I have) and try to get it smoother that way, but decided not to go at it with the polishing cloth.

After searching around the interweb (which I'm not all that great at), I did see what the mechanism looks like inside. It is not something I want to mess with. I did see that a guy name of Bill Springfield works on them, so I guess I'll see what he charges, which probably isn't real cheap I'm guessing. Thanks though CDJ.

I talked to Bill today. For $49.00 I can send the trigger unit to him & he says he'll get it back in about a week. Can't beat that, I was expecting to pay much more, which I would have.
