well after reading all these threads on the m44 i went to big 5 and just walked out with a nice unissued M44. COVERED in cosmoline. came with everything in great shape and the barrell is really sharp looking on the lands/groves.

going to go order some surplus ammo tomarrow if i can't find it local.

i was gonna get the 91/30 they only had one left on sale for 89.99 but it was a little beat up on the stock and such. i got my M44 for 81.68 out the door. gotta love sales.

Don't worry about missing the 91/30...you'll get one eventually. Mosins are kind of addicting. You'll be amazed at how easy it is to justify its purchase. You'll start wondering about the difference with a 28" barrel...and you're gone!

Don't blame you, although M44's in my hometown (the rare times I get there, due to being stationed in Germany) are around $120; whereas I got my M91 for a cool $80.

After all the vids I saw online of ppl shooting the M91, I was expecting the rifle to put me on my ass with a broken shoulder. Hell, my M4 seems to kick more than that thing. Enjoy!

i will i cant wait for some ammo to arrive.

quite question, what is the best thing to use to get out all the cosmo and crap they used so i can get it all cleaned and oiled? how water and dish soap? or some hopes #9 and scrub with a rab over the stock and such?

Oh no, another convert.

Once you start on the milsurp road, it's hard to go back.

Had a 91/30, sold it (and a couple other things) to get an AR. But now I have an itch for one of those M44/M38 carbines.

ya i just finished cleaning it, barrell is really shiney with sharp lands/grooves. everything runs strong with the bolt and such. i just used hoped #9 and some old t-shirts and a tooth brush. better then new after i wiped it all down (the stock that is) with windex to get rid of that waxy feeling on the stock.
