Hammer Hooks

I'm going to take my 1911 to a pro for a trigger job, as my trigger has been getting a bit gritty. What I want is b/w 3.5 and 4.5 pounds, with a clean, crisp break. My preference is for as close to 4 pounds as possible, with no discernible creep.

This is my primary carry gun, as well as my IDPA gun. So, my question is what hammer hook depth should I ask for to keep this thing safe?

Some experts say .022" Some say no less than .020" I have seen them cut to .018" I won't go below .020" This is only one part of a good trigger job though. The sear, disconnector, and springs must be carefully balanced to keep it safe. Jerry Kuhnhausen's manual is a good reference.

If you are going to take it to a pro, the only thing you should ask for is a crisp 4# trigger if that's what you want. Tell him what you use the gun for and leave the rest to him. It's always better if you don't tell someone who is a professional how to do his or her job.
