As my friend and I have been aquiring handguns, I've noticed something a bit of a trend in case colors. My Colt .45, and Beretta 92, as well as my friend's S&W 686 all were packaged in blue colored cases. At first I didn't think too much of it until my friend purchased a Buckmark .22 which was in a gray case, which happens to be the same color as the case that my dad's ancient Ruger Super Single Six .22 came in.
I'd think that there are exceptions to this and all, but why are all the handguns I'm running into thus far all in blue cases and all the .22s are in gray cases? Is this just a weird coincidence or is there a legal reason behind the color of the case?
