What are your handgun goals for 2005?

I plan on firing 5,000 rds of 44 Mag loads consisting of 9.2 grs of Universal and a 255 Keith from Beartooth Bullets in my 44 Mtn Gun in 05.

Second goal is to carry this Mtn Gun while hiking a minimum of 200 miles in the Bitterroot and Sawtooth Mtns of Idaho this year.

What are some of your aspirations with a handgun this year?

I am going to purchase a Ruger Redhawk 5.5" with my government rebate check and hopefully harvest a deer with it in December. I also plan to join a gun club 15 minutes from my house and do a lot more shooting.

Charby

Get a FL CCW. Carry whenever legal. Bug my KS lawmakers to recognize our rights of self defense until they do the right thing.

Pay off some of my debts so I can feel better about spending money on guns.

Get a 10mm cylinder made for my S&W 646.

Try and find a deal on a CZ 75B SA in .40 S&W.

Keep bugging CZ about a CZ 97B in 10mm.

Run out of the 2500 155 gr bullets I got for my .40s.

Practice my draw from concealment enough to show signifigant holster wear on all my CCW guns.

Dry fire more.

Work on my physical condition to improve my shooting and quality of life.

Try to get to some shooting sport matches for fun.

That's off the top of my head :)

Well, mostly upgrades and (possibly) acquisitions. My BHP Practical has high, crappy adjustable sights that need to be replaced with some low mount 3 dot fixed. It also needs new springs throughout. I bought it used and it occasionally misfires, but I have no idea how to change springs.

Then, my Colt Combat Gov't has a loose plunger tube that needs re-staking, and still has a flange bushing that needs to be replaced with a solid bushing.

Also, I want to replace all MIM parts in my Springer Milspec with real machined parts.

Then, my S&W 586 has Pachmayer grips that are WAY too thick, but I haven't found anything to replace them.

Also thinking it may be time for a complete spring replacement in the Ruger MKII Target.

Considering de-horning the Taurus 85, but probably not.

Also considering a revolver purchase, but haven't figured out what I want yet. Mayber a Mod 28 6" if I can find one in good condition. Also the SA .45 LC keep calling out to me, but then again, why do I want a SA and yet another caliber?

I'll keep practicing mostly with the CZ75B, as it's cheaper to shoot than the .45's and I'm not about to get back into reloading-it takes too much time.

That's all I can think of for now.

To be more accurate! :D I have a variety of handguns in calibers from .22 to .45ACP and at this point, I probably won't add to my collection of handguns unless a really smokin' deal comes along.

But I do need to concentrate of being a more accurate shot with whatever I take to the range. It's fun to shoot really small groups with my Ruger MKII at 25yds, but I would like to be able to shoot 2" groups at the same distance with my 1911.

I hope to get one.
Been looking at CZ-52s on gunbroker.com...
Of course, being only 18 makes this harder. =(

Get my S&W Model 27 revolver out of the gunsmith (getting the sideplate reblued & polished), then put my SW1911 in with the gunsmith, (get the frontsight goldbeaded; get the ambi safety changed over to a single, and maybe get the action done).

Berg1 How do you like the S&W 1911? I have had a Kimber in the past but Smith loyalty is important to me, are they as good as the Kimber?

  1. Have the barrel of my 30 Carbine re-parked
  2. Find another practical Hi-power, this one in 9mm
  3. Bring home a .45 of some type. (what a decision)
  4. Pick out a couple of different holster than I already have for various handguns
  5. Buy a 5 1'2 " Ruger Redhawk. (mentally debating 44 Mag or 45 Colt)
  6. Pick out new wood grips for S&W Model 13
  7. Gather Hi-cap mags

I am trimming my collection to a good group of shooters
I have and I am keeping
1. S&W 35-1 22lr and I might get one charge hole reamed to 22 Mag for a 5 + 1 shooter and shoot it lots

2. S&W 642 I have a new cylinder for a 940 and I will have it fitted for a swap cylinder gun and shoot it with the 38 spec cylinder a lot and shoot some reloads in 9mm a little and a cylinder of 124 gr golddots to check POI/POA and carry it with some 9mm 124gr Golddots

3. S&W 13-3 3" Just adding a Tyler T grip and some regular RB wood grips and shoot it lots.

4. S&W 65-5 3" is at a Smith becoming a 4" pencil barrel and being moonclipped I will add a Tyler T grip when it comes back and shoot it lots.

5. Ruger MkII Slab side and shoot it lots. I might buy a set of lefty grips and put the non thumb rest grips on both sides.

6. Systema 1911. shoot it as ammo lets me.

7. S&W HeavyDuty ????? I might have this one converted to 45 Colt??? Then again I might sell or trade it for a S&W 58?????????

8. S&W 60-4 keeper under the mattress

Selling maybe
1. 1956 pre mod 10 4 screw shooter reblue with cold blue in spots w/ beat up grips. $150 shipped

2. 1950 K38 5 screw with small pits on the right side. ????

3. S&W 586 that I have chopped, channelled, ringed and lowered.
What I have done to it is grind off the full lug to a half lug, round the back of the butt a little(not quite round butted), I thinned the front sight to 1/10 inch, rounded the rear sight, had the cylinder moonclipped, and shortened the wood grips. The problem with this one is it has not been refinished after the grind/file and abrasive paper work. ????

other guns
1. get a NEF Handi rifle in 357 with the barrel cut to 16.2", an M-16 flash suppressor threaded on, Synthetic youth stock, and syn foreend.

2. some year maybe 2006 get a Charles Daly Mini Mauser and Boyds Walnut stock and have one of two rifles made, either a 25-222mag or a 6.5 grendel with a 18" barrel and a 1x4 leupy scope.

IPSC (USPSA) Grand Master in Limited Division, with a single stack .45 out of a carry holster. Only one decent classifier to go (well maybe two).

may i assume every one is talking about when they recover from Xmas. i have 12 grandchildren and 3 greats that had to be satisfied. woe is me to have been so prolific. discounting a bargain i cannot refuse, i have plans for a SnW 500 and a Bushy, neither of which i "need". i'm sure you unnderstand.

I'm going to get a Ruger Blackhawk Convertible in 45Colt/45acp with the 4-5/8 barrel. But if I can't get hold of that one I'll be satisfied with the 5-1/2 barrel. As far as I know that's all I intend to get. Well I actually purchased a Browning Buckmark on 01/01/05, but I had made that one of my goals in 04 so I can't count that one.

Cast another year's supply of bullets. Work on trigger control. Shoot various .45s to develop skills and perfect loads.

Maybe give a way a couple more guns to "the kids".

Go a year without buying another gun. The ones I have are plenty good.

To get to the range a litle more often, to actually practice and put more quality in my shooting rather than quantity & to pick up a couple of nice additions to my collection.

Purchases for 2005
Glock 19 or P-01 (i can't decide yet)
Kahr K9098A
Springfield 1911 milspec

I also need to quit cheweing tobaco. Pay closer attention to my finances and save more.

1. Work on handgun handling skills(holster draws, magazine changes)
2. do some home gunsmithing on my hipower(install extended safety, remove magazine safety, install night sights, and next summer possibly gunkote or alumahyde it)
3. buy a 3 inch k-frame
4. buy a .45 1911(probally Rock Island)
5. refinish my star bm and maybe get some hakan grips for it.

..qualify IPSC Master in Production with a stock Beretta 92..
..get a Limited gun, thinking of SVI with the AET setup..just can't like Open with those 'impractical' guns.. shooting Open really ups the learning however..

- get my Springfield worked over a bit: new finish, trigger job, etc.
- stick to my dryfire regimen
- make IDPA CDP Master, get qualified ESP & SSP Expert and SSR and ESR something, get deep into USPSA 'B' class by season's end.
- shoot at least one major USPSA and one major IDPA match this year
- 1st place CDP Expert at the NE Regionals (if I don't make Master)

- Gabe
