If this isn't the proper forum for this thread then can a mod move it to the proper place.

I live about halfway between Portland and Salem (hubbard) and am hoping to find a range that lets you shoot reloads. I currently go to the clackamas training center (which is a very nice indoor range) but they require you to buy their ammo to shoot.

I want to get into reloading but am not sure it'd be worth it if I can't find a regular place to shoot them.

If you know of any place within a 40 minute drive let me know...thanks

This club rocks. No range nazi, typically only one or two other folks there in the evenings (weekends are busy), electronic door card entry. Shoot whatever you like (except magnums -- noise concerns and backstop probably gets beat up).

even in your own gun?

time for a new range my friend... i can understand that policy if you are renting their guns, thats how they make money... but in your own gun... HA...

are they reloading the ammo they require you to buy? im guessing that they are, and that they dont come in sealed boxes so most people cant tell the difference...

i used to shoot at a range that did that, but at least they packaged the ammo in plastic bags and wernt afraid to tell you it was reloads

I am member out at the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club. I shoot reloads and factory fresh weekly no problems what so ever, and the people are nice there too.
I work my range time in, between all sorts of groups and competitions.
Just remember your safety stuff, eyes and ears don just grow back . ;)

I am a member up at The Place to Shoot they require buying their ammo supposedly due to air quality standards. When I shoot reloads I just go to my GF's favorite shooting spot out past Salem in the mountains. So sorry I cant help you much on that front.

You mean you pay money just so you can have some guy yell at you about ridiculous rules?

Isn't that what the woods are for?

I'll second the vote for Albany gun club. It's about as close to being 'outdoors' as can be and still be a gun club. The ranges are covered, but the backstop is a big ol' mountain...well,tall hill actually.

It is 'members only,' but most clubs are

Hmmm...that johnsons' creek place looked promising except for the no magnum rule...just bought a GP100 and have my eyes on a Ruger Redhawk. I intend to shoot a lot of magnum loads (hence me starting to reload).

I've heard of the Albany Gun club but it's just a bit too far away for my liking. If I can't find anything else though if may end up being the ticket. It'll just result in me shooting less often which kinda stinks

clackamas is a great range....never had any issue with a rangemaster.....sure wish they didn't have that ammo rule...they say it's for air quality.

Woods is an option but I like the convenience (well other then the no reloads thing) of a shooting range.

Tri-County (in Sherwood). http://www.tcgc.org/ I don't think they have any restrictions on ammo except no tracers or .50BMG :)mad: I need to find a place where .50's are permitted so I have a decent excuset to get one!). They have a lot of different types of competitions out there also if that's your thing.
It's a membership range but every time I've gone all the folks are safe and polite.
I refuse to go to ranges that make you buy their own overpriced ammo unless I absolutely have to.

How crowded is it at TriCounty?

Are you always assured a spot on the range or do you have to go during off hours to make sure you don't show up and have to wait for others to finish?

TPTS has to be the worst place I've ever shot - I made that mistake once 6 years ago. Their air-quality standards is a lie too, they just want you to use their ammo so they can reload it again.

I've never had to wait. In fact I don't think I've been there when more than half the benches on any given range were being used, but it's been a year or two since I went (my dad was a member but he let it lapse since he's got more land to shoot on now). Usually it was 1 or 2 other guys on the range.

Man, I thought only California ranges have screwy rules like that?!!! Fortunately not ALL ranges here have that policy.

Tri county has loots of diferent ranges. It's a huge place, was mined for the gravel and rock and then the pits turned into action ranges, long range stuff, etc.
I haven't been there for a year but they were doing MAJOR re-do's on the place at that time.
Lots of different types of competiiton shooting there too.

I really like Johnson Creek GC, just a few miles from home, but I just shoot rimfire there. I have been to The Place to Shoot and Clackamas training center. Don't like being required to buy there spendy ammo. I have heard good things about Albany Gun club and Four Corners (Salem) Rod & Gun Club. I plan on checking out Douglas Ridge rifle club, east of Portland soon. http://www.douglasridge.org.
Tri county looks nice, but I don't like going to the west side.

Hi Folks,
I have been shooting for many years and most of the ranges I have shot at belonged to the U.S. Army. What is the benefit of paying to do indoors what you can do for free in the great outdoors?
