If you're into scrimshawed powder horns of the F&I and American Revolution era, get this book. The drawings are as if the horn was rolled out flat. By photocopying it to the size of your horn, you can transfer the image onto your horn for scrimshawing. Talentless folks like myself can make authentic horns that way.

Gary, Thanks for mentioning this book. Just ordered a new copy. Even if I never engrave a powder horn, these designs can be use in wood burning, kohlrosing and pen and ink sketches. Oh yeah! I see a lot of photocopying in my future. :D

The Hartley book just arrived and it's great. Having the scrimshawed details laid out like that is very helpful. It's also fascinating to see the variety of workmanship and motifs that were used as well as the pride they took in a personal item. For me it was well worth the price. Thanks again for suggesting it.
