Has anyone tried this bore solvent?

No experience with this particular bore cleaner but: In my experience most anything made by Tipton is good if not excellent though they are more often than not just a bit too proud of what they produce as indicated by the price. Such is the case with this bore cleaner.

The product blurb says
This solvent is gentle on your bore and has rust preventatives included to protect your bore from corrosion.
but then goes on to say don't leave it in the bore for more than 15 minutes. That indicates to me that it probably has a rather high concentration of ammonia or some other corrosive chemical in it and that isn't gentle.

That alone would keep me from buying it except they want 14.99 for 5 OZ's. :what: At that price a single swab of a wet patch better return the barrel to new condition with NO lead, NO copper and NO fouling present. My bet is it cannot accomplish that so I won't be a customer.

Sorry but there's a number of products available that work excellently in my experience for 1/2 the price Tipton is asking.

If you want to find out what's in it, ask for a Material Safety Data Sheet, also known as an MSDS.
I'm pretty sure they have to provide one. It won't hurt to ask.

Why spend 15.00 bucks a bottle when you can enjoy the sweet aroma of Hoppes no.9 for a fraction of the cost? Chicks dig it!

And if the chicks you want to dig you happen to be garage mechanics, mix up a batch of Ed's Red. It works great, it's cheap, and it smells like industry!

ive heard great things about it, but i use hoppes 9 and also my new fave:
Gunslick foaming cleaner, let the stuff do all the work!

I'll sell 5 ounces of Ed's Red for $10.00 :what:

Considering Ed's Red costs 10cents an ounce to make or around 14.00 a gallon. I'm claiming the nice floral motive bottle is a collectable. :neener:

I could only buy gallon lots of some of the ingredients so I now have enough to clean several hundred guns many many times. :D

Well, I couldnt resist trying it..... Yes, I paid the $15. From the smell of it, and the viscosity, it is very much like Sweets. I cleaned the barrel of my AR (Kreiger barrel), thoroughly, and removed all carbon, and any copper I could. After using a few patches wetted with the new stuff.... nothing! Not a hint of blue! I think I tried it on the wrong barrel, as it never really accumulates in that barrel. Oh well, I guess Ill try it in my A-bolt after shooting it next. "Product Report" pending.

Y'all can add me to the Butch's Bore Shine fan list. Best bore cleaner I've used and like someone mentioned does a really good job on copper.

I wonder how BBS compares to Ed's Red?
