All of my adult life I have been in love with "short
barrel" revolver's not to exceed 3" in length. But,
as I grow older (and wiser I hope) my taste have
changed; cuz I'm finding a wonderful and a solid
fasinating experience with 5" and 6" barrel target
revolver's. I'm just wondering how many others
have enjoyed this "new found" experience?

Currently, I have the 5" Smith & Wesson 629-5
"Classic"; and a 6" "Distinguished Combat Magnum"
model 686-5. But, I plan to add more in the very
near future.

i prefer 4 or 6 inchers though i do have a 9 1/2 super redhawk just like i prefer a blackhawk in 4 5/8 different strokes for different folks thats what makes the world turn

Variety is the spice of life.......
My revolvers range from my Sherrrif's Model Vaquero .45 Colt with it's 3 1/2" barrrel to my Freedom Arms .454 Casull with it's 10" tube, and everything in between. Enjoy them all!:D

Different guns feel best sometimes in different bbl lengths.

Don't fight it...you can't win.:uhoh:

THR2012...Ala Dan discovers the joys of 8 3/8th inch barrels and 2x scopes...just kidding ya. The blooming things are so heavy you need a bench rest to shoot them.

"Its hurt me since S&W Model 17s are 6 inchers.."

Not all of them.

I have a nearly new 17-6 that's a 4" with a full underlug. Trade ya for a used CZ RAMI. ;)

Is Ala Dan Crazy?

 No, my bud, I think there is room for all bbl length S&Ws. In the Maggies I have the dreaded "Long Tom" 8 3/8 tube! My first 44 Mod 29 was a dreaded 6 1/2" nickel. Beautiful! What was I thinking to sell it?

Nah,(other that this whole "UT" aberration:p ) Different lengths for different purposes. I've got 2, 3, 4, 5, 5,5, 6, 6.5 and 8.375 revos, so it must be a good idea...

Yes you have lost your mind and you must stop!! Each time you buy one of these obsolete out-of-popular-fashion-firearms it prevents me from getting it, and/or in general drives up the price for the rest of us. I have worked long and hard to convince everyone that being caught at the range with a wheelgun is bad enough, but if the barrel is longer then one-half inches and it’s made of anything but non-ferrous alloys it’s the epitome of bad judgment. Now you’ve ruined everything. You should be ashamed.

On the other hand, welcome to the club ……

Just to fuel the disease...

Might want to think about a 6" model 19/66, very underated guns. Nice long sight radius for easy shooting, but also light enough for the hip all day...

Blueduck, you couldn't be more correct! I've owned at
least 2 of them, and wish I had another. I know where
there is a 6" nickel S&W model 19 thats about a 90 per
center; and the guy wants to trade for any S&W
.357 magnum with a 4" tube. I offered him $225 cash
for it, with intentions of going as high as $250; but he
won't budge! :( :uhoh: :D

I like 4 to 6 inch barreled revos. Having said that I had a blued 5" 27-2 that I sold. I had a lapse in judgement there for sure!

I also had a 6" blued 19-4 that was the best shooting centerfire revo I've ever owned. I sold that one to a board member. I sold it because I like to shoot a steady diet of .357s out of my .357s and have 6" N frame 27s for that. I plan on picking up a 14 or pre 14 in 6" for the .38s.

I stopped buying 4" revolvers.
I currently own 2.5", 3.5", 4", 4.5", 5", 5.5", 6", 6.5", 7", 7.5", and 8" barrels, in wheelies.
The most glaring omission is a lack of 3" revolvers.
Most of my autos are around 3", so that would explain that...
I think the best barrel length for a target wheelie for me is somewhere between 5" and 5.5", provided you are allowed to shoot one-handed, or offhand, no rest.
I may have to buy a 3" wheelgun now, thanks to you. *Grumble*

I've always had a preference for 4-5 inch barrels myself. Don't know why for sure. They just seem more pleasing to the eye somehow.
