Vote and comment in the poll as to whether you have been robbed, burgled, the victim of fire, or measures you took to protect yourself from fire or theft attempts.

I foolishly left handguns in my car - in a bag in the front seat and in the glovebox - while I went into the gym. Ironically I had forgotten my padlock for the locker so I didn't take my bag in. That night while I was working out, "would the owner of XYZ car come to the front desk." My car, along with two others in the lot, had been burgled by breaking the windows.

Taught me to not leave valuables in my car and to secure valuables at all times.

Lost 3 handguns in a burglary. One was recovered a few years later. No safe.:banghead:

At the time I had my pistol stashed ina clever hiding spot that only i knew about. I lost a camcorder and some home stereo equipment. The local police diddnt even want to fill out a report because the only damage was to a window and all the stolen items were cash and carry electronics of not much value. I ended up having to call the state police post and have a trooper respond to my home to get anything done. Still diddnt get any items returned but the thieves did not leave with a firearm.

edit: I have since installed 2 pistol safes behind sheet rock that is easily accessable but you cannot even tell that they are there or that the wall has been altered when in place.

Aren't boating accidents gun related enough ? :)

I am actually in Italy with my home empty in Switzerland ! all my guns are in the safes + all bolts are removed and in a friend safes somewhere else.. Since bolts are considered as a firearm here, even if stolen, my guns won't used , exept as expensive clubs..

I'd hate loosing my collection though.. if it was legal, i'd booby trap my safes

Real Boating accidents would be ok, but some folks think it is humorous to state that their guns were lost in a boating accident just in case some Agent of the Government would show up demanding that they turn over their guns(confiscation). If you lost your guns in a boating accident, then my next question if you lost that many, why didn't you file an insurance claim?

I Haven't lost any guns except in my basement for a couple of weeks.

i had a gun stolen out of my van, while it was parked overnight. someone broke in, stole a toolbox (where the gun was locked up in), my stereo, and a camera. i don't know whether having a dedicated gun safe would have made a difference; they had plenty of time to ransack my vehicle, going through my glove box, center console, and rear cargo space pretty throroughly.

My gun shop burned down in 1995. I lost seven guns and a bunch of other stuff. Insurance covered everything that money could buy.

House alarm, Radio back up, And I have safe tampers. Not much to take but secure.. so far. I will say this I have had my phone line cut and my back door broken in. they got busted... they did not know about my backup... Everybody needs a telular or radio back up. Phone lines are easy cut.

My Grandfather's guns were stolen by movers about 20 years ago. Nothing that great: a single-shot .22, a .22 repeater, and a beat up Mauser. Still, they had a lot of sentimental value because he died before I was born so it was all we had left from him really.
