I was overwhelmed with the choices for hearing and eye protection when I googled for that information so I decided to ask the good member's of this forum for suggestions (or recommendation) of ear muffs and eye protection before shelling my hard earned buck :D

Thanks for any advice folks.

Shinken,

Search General Gun Discussions if you want discussions of eye and ear protection that can include specific equipment and Accessories if you just want specific equipment recommendations.

Inexpensive foam ear plugs offer the most noise reduction rating of any hearing protection out there. Couple them with a pair of electronic muffs and you have a combination that allows you to hear conversations while shutting out 30 dB of gunshot noise. Be sure to insert the plugs properly. Just like a plug in a sink will leak if not properly seated, ear plugs that aren't well down in the ear canal will "leak" noise. Muffs by themselves won't give you as much protection as plugs and when you put them over your glasses ear pieces you've got an instant "leak" of noise.

Eye protection can be had for as little as $7 by purchasing inexpensive Z87+ compliant safety glasses from the hardware store. The more expensive the safety glasses the better the optical quality (very beneficial), but no real improvement in protection is provided as long as you're dealing with high impact safety glasses.

I use a pair of Oakley Radar Range Iridium glasses which I really like. I can shoot with them indoor and outdoor.

For hearing protection I highly recommend MSA Sordin

There are not a lot of muffs that can even match the plain old EAR throw away foam plugs.

I found some ear muffs that rate NRR 34, the highest I have ever seen. I have some "Remington" I bought from Natchez a while back that are rated 33. I always double protect with ear plugs from Rite Aid or Walgreens that rate 33 and the muffs. That doesn't equal to a 67 rating. Smart people have figured out exactly what the two combined do for us. Just know you are better off using double protection. I didn't for years and I have lost a lot of hearing and right now and always I hear a terrible ringing and 1000 crickets. Sad. So don't let it happen to you. When I go to a Hockey Game I use plugs also. Concerts...you bet. Here are the muffs I got from Amazon. PYRAMEX PM5010 FOLDING EAR MUFFS NRR 34
These don't fit as comfortably as the Remington but they work. Do searches for Silencio etc, and get something in the 30's for a rating.
Here are some web sites that address some of the considerations in protection:
