I need some suggestions for hearing protection...

I tried a $70 set of electronic ear muffs. Worked well for a while then developed noise. Also, it is really hard to put on a hat with them.

I am looking at behind the ear, similar to the Walker Game Ear. Just hate having to spend $350+++ for a pair.

I've had a set of Peltor Tac6 muffs for three years now & they've worked fine.
They make them with a "behind the neck" band for when wearing a hat.

You might look into the cast silicone plugs sometimes sold at gunshows. I'm on my 3rd pair over about 25 years and am happy with the way they work. They're (relatively) comfortable , effective and don't interfere with your hat or gunstock (although it is possible to break the ear canal seal if you have an aggressive cheek weld).
I used to work in an industrial environment so they bought me my 1st pair. Expect to pay $45/50 for a pair.

I've been using the Silencio Falcon model for a couple of years now, and it is some of the best accessory money I've yet spent. Like you, I can't bring myself to spend hundreds on electronic muffs.

Ear Muffs

EAR would work fine, but I need to be able to hear animals in the woods and it would be nice to hear range commands. They do make a Musicians EAR that has a shut off valve and I might look into that more.

Didn't know about the Silencio.

I have used Peltor Tactical 7 earmuffs for several years. Great for pistol and some rifle shooting. Seems to get in the way with Shotgun. When I am using an indoor pistol range these with a set of plugs work great.

It's pricier, but my suppressors are the best hearing protection I own. :)

Seriously though, Peltor makes good stuff.

Put the hat on first. Peltor makes a set of muff for shotgunners.
