I am looking for a set of hearing protection muffs at about the $50 range. I am sick of using the plugs and want to get a decent set. Any suggestions around my price point?

Plugs and muffs are needed when shooting.

Foam plugs are fine.

Any NRR 30 muff will do, but do try to find ones with gel pads for greater comfort. Low profile muffs are typically an NRR 20-22. Any good industrial hearing protection company will produce muffs that can be found at big box home improvement stores.

Electronic muffs are the best and typically provide an NRR of 20-22. Don't cheap out on electronic muffs.

The other good set of muffs is the Peltor Bullseye 10 or whatever it's called now. You would think I'd know, I've had two sets forever. They about $20 or $25.

Okay, it's the Bullseye Ultimate 10. I think they're more comfortable on my bighead than the high-db Howard L's.

Thanks for the replies! So plugs under muffs? I have only ever used the plugs.

I always double up. I figure I only have one set of ears so I should take care of them.

I also second the Howard Leight muffs. They work great and the electronic feature is nice when you have ear plugs on, too.

That is still only 20-22 dB, all the electronics do is let you hear conversation through the plugs you ought to have under such a low rated muff.

I am at present wearing Pro Ears Ultra passives and have decided they are comfortable enough for me to pay for Pro Ears Mag Gold 33 dB electronics.
