I really want to start re-loading - .38 spl and 9mm particularly. The only work space I have is in my garage which is not air conditioned and subject to the summer heat and humidity of Central Florida (sometimes 90% rH and 95 degrees or so). Am I asking for trouble? I could store the powder and primers inside if I need to and definitely keep my loaded ammunition in the air conditioned house. Thanks for any input. Should I start pestering my wife to let me convert the guest bedroom?

I would convert the guest room. The way you describe your setup would be OK for the ammo you crank out, but terrible on you. I find heat very distracting, and distraction does not belong anywhere in the reloading process. Store the components inside as you mention, and let AC be your friend.

Smokeless powder and primers are not hygroscopic. Your reloads will not be affected by your Florida garage workshop. You might want to store your primers in a surplus ammo can?
Reloading in the guest room? The habit involves a fair share of dust and grit. If your spouse is anything like mine, and you want to keep her, keep your spent primers off any floor she may happen to want to vacuum. The sound of primers sucked through a vacuum is something mine doesn't seem to be attracted to. Spilled powder on a carpet is also problematic.
In my experience, sooner or later you'll be either living alone or reloading in the garage (or, in my case; the basement).

Great input! Thanks all. I've got a lot to learn but can't wait to get started.

If you cannot find a place inside for primers you definitely need to store them in a GI ammo can in a place in the garage where it will be the most stable as far as temps. Long term powder storage in heat and changing temps is not good, but short term will be fine. I would suggest you try to find a little space inside for those items though.

Go inside!

My first tour through Houston I loaded in the garage and it stank. 95% humidity and 100+F is just not a recipe for precision.

This tour I bought my house and laid claim to the laundry room. AC, workbench, clean tile floors.

I would never ever go back outside!

Even my dies I had on the first tour have a rust patina no matter how hard I tried to keep them clean.
