A friend of mine dropped off a Beretta 390 for me to try to repair. It is an AL390 12ga. semi-auto that the bolt is too far foward.
He had the barrel off of the gun and let the bolt come flying foward. The bolt is now too far foward and will not go back into receiver. Any quick tricks out there?? Thanks Bill..

Rubber mallet + Good old fashioned tough love is what I would try.

I'd wait for some others to reply before trying this though, I really don't know what I'm talking about, just saying what I would personally try.

Look up www.shotgunworld.com Beretta forum section. They have some knowledgeable people there. Seek out Seamus.

Have you removed the bolt assembly yet (just to check for damage)? Obviously allowing he bolt to slam into the receiver is not a good thing, but it is fairly easy to accidentally do.

If it can't move back, it sounds like it is no longer connected to the recoil assembly "catch" in the rear. This is no big deal since those who do a thorough cleaning have to put the bolt assembly back all the time. It does have to be aligned properly though. A mallet won't help here :neener:

Additional advice: Not to harp for shotgunworld, but they do have stickies on the best way to put back the bolt assembly. Myself I remove the trigger assembly to see what I'm doing, but it isn't necessary.

good luck

Thanks for the replies.

I got her fixed. Not sure of the proper description of the parts, but this is what I found/did to repair.
After removal of the trigger group, I noted the operating rod follower-about the size of a pencil-had went too far forward, and had came out of a tube that it goes into, back into the stock area, at the back of the receiver. That tube is spring loaded into the receiver area. I pushed back on the tube-toward the stock, and re-installed the rod follower. This would let the operating rod assembly go back correctly, into stock area. Re-installed trigger group and barrel/for-end and all is well.:)
And--NO--I did not have to use a hammer!!:neener:
Thanks again for your time/replies..Bill..:D
