For some reason Weaver quit selling sun shades for the V16. I have checked with a couple of the major online gun accessory sites and they no longer carry them. I asked via live chat on one sight if they had another brand that would fit. I was told that they were lens-specific and they did not have one for my scope. I told him that the V16 has 49mm threads on the end and that any shade with 49mm threads would work and was told that it just wasn't as simple as that,that many factors must be taken into consideration. I looked at the reviews of Weaver's sun shade for their Grand Slam scope with 42mm objective and found out that it did not fit the V16,although the reviewer did not say whether or not he had actually purchased the shade and tried to mount it or was simply told it would not fit and didn't buy it.
Is there anyone who has a Grand Slam scope,or any scope with a 42mm objective, that is willing to determine the thread size? A very simple way is to try to screw a 49mm filter used on cameras onto the scope.
Or does anyone know where I can buy a new/used V16 sun shade? My scope is matte black.
A shade is just a simple tube with threads on the end,but it seems like scope manufacturers/dealers consider determining their compatability to be on the level of rocket science.:banghead:
